ACW Brief Description

The Alcoholism Center For Women, Inc. (ACW) has been a substance abuse treatment facility for women for almost 50 years. ACW began in October 1974 and was the first program on the west coast to provide shelter and substance abuse treatment for women. Over the years our programs have continued to implement our mission to empower women to make new choices for positive futures through residential, intensive outpatient treatment, outpatient services, and recently, Enhanced Care Management (ECM). Our ECM program contracts with five different insurance companies to link high risk men and women to essential services.  Our residential and outpatient programs assist women over 18 years old and are state licensed and certified and have obtained international behavioral health CARF accreditation.  Our residential program also has national ASAM certification. All our programs use evidenced-based-curriculum, offer individualized treatment plans, and assign each client to a specific counselor to assist them with their unique treatment and care coordination needs.  For the last four years, ACW was selected by Newsweek Magazine to be one of the 300 best addiction centers in the United States.  Recently, ACW received LA Conservancy’s 2024 Preservation Award in recognition of 50 years of path-breaking treatment in turn of the century historic repurposed homes where community building is embedded into its preservation efforts.
